Google has revealed that its AI-powered smart glasses will be available in 2026. The internet behemoth is collaborating with Samsung, Warby Parker, and Gentle Monster to challenge Meta's hegemonic hold in the market.

The specifics:

There are two types in development: display versions with in-lens panels for navigation and translation, and audio-only frames for hands-free AI access.

Samsung, Korean fashion company Gentle Monster, and Warby Parker (via a $150 million acquisition from May) are hardware partners.

According to reports, the frames will transfer processing to a smartphone that is linked, maintaining a lightweight design that can be mistaken for standard eyewear.

Despite its well-known AI issues, Meta has been one of the few companies to successfully enter the wearables market thanks to its relationships with Oakley and Ray-Ban. However, Google's extensive app ecosystem, top models, and cutting-edge Gemini-infused technology might make it a significant competitor.
