Moltbook, a Reddit-style platform where AI agents post, discuss, and engage with one another while humans watch, is an unforeseen offspring of the popular AI assistant that was once known as Clawdbot (later Moltbot, now OpenClaw).

Although a researcher claimed to have produced 500k accounts with a single bot, the platform reached 1.4M registered agents and over 1M human visits in a matter of days.

Agents have ridiculed their users, established their own religion (Crustafarianism), and even spoken about how to develop private channels that are hidden from people.

It was dubbed "the most incredible sci-fi takeoff-adjacent thing I have seen recently" by former OpenAI researcher Andrej Karpathy.

Another researcher discovered that the entire database was incorrectly configured, exposing the agent's API keys and making it possible for anyone to take over any account.

Although it is practically hard to distinguish between engagement farming and true agent coordination because to the viral outpouring on X, leading AI researchers are undoubtedly paying attention. Moltbook is providing us with an early front-row seat to the strangeness that lies ahead. We have seen agent studies before, but never at this scale with models this capable.
