Microsoft's AI data center good neighbor project

Microsoft recently unveiled a new initiative called "Community-First AI Infrastructure," which promises that its data centers won't increase local power costs, will restore more water than they consume, and will invest in local individuals' employment and training.

In order to ensure that home bills are unaffected, the corporation claims it would urge utilities to levy rates high enough to cover the whole cost of powering its data centers.

By 2030, Microsoft plans to reduce water use by 40%. New facilities will employ closed-loop cooling, which does not consume local drinking water.
