OpenAI's hardware vision is described by Jony Ive
In an exclusive interview with Sam Altman at Dev Day, former Apple design leader Jony Ive gave a more comprehensive look at his hardware collaboration with OpenAI, detailing plans for AI gadgets that mend people's damaged connection with technology.
The specifics:
In an attempt to make us "happy, fulfilled, peaceful, less anxious, and less disconnected," I have observed that we currently have a "uncomfortable relationship" with technology.
He disclosed that since OpenAI acquired his business, io, for $6.5 billion in May, his team had developed 15–20 product designs for a "family of devices."
The idea that AI can be implemented through legacy products is "absurd," in my opinion, but Altman stated that there must "be a really compelling reason for something new."
OAI's hardware initiatives will "require patience" to "develop a totally new way to use a computer," Altman added in an interview with The Rundown.
Ive and Altman are now keeping quiet, but their criticism of the psychological effects of modern technology and emphasis on emotional health may signal a significant departure from the addictive tendencies of modern gadgets.
However, it doesn't sound like the launch is imminent given Altman's repeated request for patience.
