Coca-Cola increases its use of AI in holiday advertisements
One year after its initial AI attempt provoked criticism from creatives on the technology's effects on artists, Coca-Cola unveiled its 2025 holiday campaign with AI-generated renditions of its classic "Holidays Are Coming" advertisements.
The details:
Coca-Cola collaborated with AI studios Silverside and Secret Level to create new advertisements that replace the uncomfortable human figures from the previous year with animals.
The beverage giant reduced production time from over 12 months to 30 days, and only five experts were required in one facility to produce and edit over 70,000 clips.
Despite social media outcry for their 2024 Christmas commercial, Coca-Cola has released its most recent advertisement. The firm also used AI for a different advertisement in 2023.
AI is at the core of Coca-Cola's marketing shift, according to global vice president Pratik Thakar, and using the technology means the "genie is out of the bottle."
This is probably the final Christmas when AI's use in video advertisements is even apparent, given the speed at which AI video is developing. However, it's also noteworthy that Coca-Cola is prepared to persevere through the initial reaction in order to test the technology; large corporations may be setting the standard for wider acceptance throughout the advertising sector.
