Co-founder of Thinking Machines Lab joins Meta
The Wall Street Journal reports that Andrew Tulloch, a co-founder of Mira Murati's Thinking Machine Lab, just left the AI startup to join Meta, marking yet another significant hire for Mark Zuckerberg's Superintelligence Lab.
The specifics:
Before joining OpenAI, Tulloch worked for Meta for 11 years. He apparently confirmed his departure in an internal message, stating that he left for personal reasons.
Together with former OpenAI CTO Mira Murati, the researcher helped start Thinking Machines in February, raising $2 billion and assembling a team of 30 employees.
Tulloch was reportedly approached by Meta this summer with a six-year, $1.5 billion compensation deal, however the tech giant denied the figures.
The hire takes place as Meta plans to spend up to $72 billion on infrastructure this year and continues to consolidate AI teams under its MSL division.
Considering that Tulloch had previously apparently rejected a huge offer, the timing of TML's latest product launch is intriguing.
Although there have been some teething pains as a result of Meta's internal reorganization, the company's next model is much awaited because to the significant talent influx and its computing.
